HDD maker LaCie this week launched a set of desktop and mobile drives that can only be described as Lego-like.
The drives come in red, blue and white, and sport six or four circular nodules on the top, each stamped with the maker's name. They're designed to fit together in a stack, just like the famous Danish plastic bricks.
LaCie is offering four desktop units providing 160GB, 250GB, 300GB and 500GB of unformatted storage capacity, respectively, all with USB 2.0 connections. There are three mobile units, at 40GB, 80GB and 120GB, but all three are offered in two forms, one with USB 2.0 connectivity, the other with USB 2.0 and FireWire. All the mobile drives are bus-powered.
The desktop drives cost $120, $150, $200 and $400, respectively, while the basic mobile drives are priced at $100, $150 and $300. The optional FireWire port adds $20-30 to the price. The company did not provide UK or European pricing. LaCie said it expects the drives to ship globally by the end of December. ®
