Intel today made public the new processor branding scheme that leaked out of the company late last year.
The launch confirms the company's plan to brand upcoming Centrino notebooks in 'Duo' and 'Solo' forms, to indicate dual- and single-core implementations of the platform. Where OEMs want to stress the CPU - for desktops and servers - there are 'Intel Core Duo' and 'Intel Core Solo' logos to suit.
The move follows last week's unveiling (http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2005/12/30/intel_leap_ahead/) of a new Intel logo, made crisper and more consumer-friendly for the 21st Century. That event saw the company rid itself of the descended 'e' in its name, a staple from the firm's earliest days. It also waved farewell to the 'Intel Inside' tag-line, replaced with 'Leap Ahead'.
The 'Inside' hasn't been entirely dispensed with: it appears on the 'Intel Core...' logos.
"This evolution will allow Intel to be better recognised for our contributions, establish a stronger emotional connection with our audiences and strengthen our overall position in the marketplace," said Intel marketing chief Eric Kim, who joined the company from Samsung last year.
The new branding system simplifies and unifies the look and feel across Intel products and platforms in an effort to better communicate important characteristics and value to consumers, he added. ®
