UK PC maker Elonex will soon ship its upgraded Lumina TV-like media centre system, adding a 40in model to the 32in screen it currently offers and moving the line-up from the Pentium 4 to Intel's dual-core Core Duo chip - and stamping the range with the chip maker's Viiv brand.
The Lumina 3 series attaches the Windows XP Media Center PC behind the widescreen display iMac-fashion, though the result is distinctly more TV-like. The 32in and 40in displays have a native resolution of 1366 x 768 for a 16:9 aspect ratio, a 15ms response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio and 450cdpm² brightness rating.
Both models pack in 1GB of 533MHz DDR 2 SDRAM and Nvidia GeForce 6600 LE graphics chips with 256MB of dedicated graphics memory. They use Core Duo processors and Intel's 945GM chipset, so the internals are essentially what you'd expect from a top-of-the-range notebook, with a better-than-desktop power consumption.
Both systems contain a slot-loading dual-layer DVD±RW drive and up to 500GB of 3Gbps Serial ATA hard drive storage. They've got 802.11a/b/g wireless networking on board, and Gigabit Ethernet. There's an array of audio, video and peripheral ports to hook the unit up to other devices.
There's an analogue TV tuner integrated into the panel, and Elonex has fitted a digital tuner into the PC.
Both models are expected to go on sale by mid-February, with the 32in costing £2599 and the 40in £3299. ®
