WidowPC to ship world's first SLI laptop in 60 days
The race is on

US system builder Widow PC has announced an SLI-equipped gaming notebook that it claims will be "the first on the planet". The graphics guzzler is going to ship with a monster 19in "fast-response" display, the company added.
And it's coming within the next 60 days, Reg Hardware can reveal.
For the moment, the machine - dubbed the Sting 919 - is still a work in progress, and WidowPC's announcement was intended to provide more of a general technology direction than a hard and fast specification for the 19in beast. So it'll be based on an AMD CPU and sport a pair of Nvidia 7800-class GPUs - which ones, WidowPC is not, for now, saying.
That's understandable: the machine's still in development and components may change by the time WidowPC feels the time is right to ship. Heck, it may not even look like the machine shown on the company's website. Some other system builder may get to market first...
Despite the size of the screen and the need to build in a gaming-friendly processor and those two high-end graphics chips, plus the high-capacity storage, fast networking and DVD writing ability that gamers expect from their machines, WidowPC maintained the 919 will be "sufficiently portable [to provide a] mobility advantage over a desktop, even a small one like a mini-ATX, Shuttle-style desktop".
When will it ship and how much will it cost? Again, WidowPC isn't saying, but we understand the company expects the machine to be ready to ship early April. ®
