Asus has finally revealed what lies under the hood of its Lamborghini-branded notebook, the VX1. Unfortunately, the laptop is unlikely to impress anyone expecting the computing equivalent of the performance cars it's named after. It's also more expensive than Asus has hinted in the past.
According to Asus, the VX1 - dubbed the "supernote" - will contain a 2GHz T2500 processor - alas not a top-of-the-line Core Duo - Intel's 945PM chipset and the chip giant's 3945ABG 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi adaptor. It's got 1GB of 667MHz DDR 2 SDRAM, a 120GB hard drive and a dual-layer DVD±R/RW optical unit.

The display, as expected, is a 15in screen, with a 1,400 x 1,050 resolution. It's driven by an Nvidia GeForce Go 7400 with 256MB of graphics memory, though it can grab 256MB more out of the main memory bank thanks to Nvidia's TurboCache system.
Asus said the VX1 will retail in Europe for €2,700. That's £1,945 in UK money - rather more than the £1,599-1,799, company officials last month suggested (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/02/23/asus_lamborghini_vx1/) the machine would cost here. The laptop is set to ship at the end of April, Asus said, not only through the company's regular reseller partners but also from Lamborghini's own online store and the car maker's merchandise outlet in Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy. ®
