Samsung's upcoming ultra-mobile PC, the Q1, will be pricey enough when it hits the UK's shores, but buyers in the company's native land of South Korea will have to splash out even more if they want one. According to local reports, they will have to pay the best part of KRW2m - equivalent to $2,100/£1,198.

They won't even get the machine before the rest of us. Samsung said the Q1 - which was originally codenamed 'Santa Fe', we understand - will ship on 1 May to both South Korea and the rest of the world. Previously, it had been expected the device wouldn't arrive in the UK before 1 June, though according to UK retailer Expansys, they'll only have to pay £800 (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/04/03/samsung_q1_umpc_uk_pricing/) for the privilege.

The 22.8 x 14 x 2.7cm Q1 sports a 7in, 800 x 480 LCD. Behind the screen sits a 900MHz ultra-low voltage Celeron M processor, an Intel 915GMS chipset, 512MB of 400MHz DDR 2 SDRAM and a 40GB, 1.8in hard drive. The machine has integrated 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and 10/100Mbps Ethernet networking, plus Bluetooth 2.0 and two USB 2.0 ports for connecting peripherals. There's GPS on board too, and a CF card slot. It weighs more than 779g. ®
