South Korea's iRiver is preparing to enter the ultra-mobile PC arena, the company has revealed. This week it demo'd its first UMPC, the W10, at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair. The prototype device shown at the event sports Wi-Fi, WiMax and WiBro connectivity.
Despite the UMPC tag, the W10 appears more a compact notebook than the tablet-style device Microsoft, Intel and a number of hardware vendors announced last month, judging by a picture of the device supplied by the company and posted on DigiTimes today.

Little is known about the W10's other specifications, but presumably it's more PC-like than iRiver's media player-cum-PDA, the Disciple D10 and D20, currently only available in the company's home territory. With WiBro built in, the W10 may also not make an appearance outside South Korea.
iRiver also showed off its G10 and G20 handheld games devices, and the upcoming hard disk-based E10 music player. The company confirmed the E10 will also operate as a universal infra-red remote control. ®
