AMD 'to bring forward' Socket AM2 launchAMD has reportedly rescheduled the release of its Socket AM2 platform, bringing forward the launch date from 6 June to 23 May, the better it seems to get as much of a lead on Intel's next-generation architecture processor, 'Conroe', as possible. According to a DailyTech report citing Taiwanese motherboard and chipset makers, AMD has told its customers Socket AM2 will launch a week after its unveils its energy efficient processor line-up and pricing. A week later, on 31 May, systems based on AMD's Live! specification - the company's answer to Intel's Viiv platform - will become available, the report adds. Live! was announced in January and will centre on AMD's dual-core desktop and notebook chips, though the latter have yet to launch - presumably they'll debut alongside Live!. AMD's energy efficient processor family is expected to include dual- and single-core Athlon 64 and Sempron desktop chips with TDPs of 65W and 35W. ®
