AMD has reportedly rescheduled the release of its Socket AM2 platform, bringing forward the launch date from 6 June to 23 May, the better it seems to get as much of a lead on Intel's next-generation architecture processor, 'Conroe', as possible.
According to a DailyTech report citing (http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=1854) Taiwanese motherboard and chipset makers, AMD has told its customers Socket AM2 will launch a week after its unveils its energy efficient processor line-up and pricing.
A week later, on 31 May, systems based on AMD's Live! specification - the company's answer to Intel's Viiv platform - will become available, the report adds. Live! was announced in January (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/01/04/amd_live/) and will centre on AMD's dual-core desktop and notebook chips, though the latter have yet to launch - presumably they'll debut alongside Live!.
AMD's energy efficient processor family is expected to include dual- and single-core Athlon 64 and Sempron desktop chips with TDPs of 65W and 35W. ®
