Nokia this week said it has chosen June and July to ship its next Series 60 Third Edition smart phones, all part of the handset giant's N series, including one of the most camcorder-like devices the company has announced to date.
The 3G N93 sports a big 3.2 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom lens - a Carl Zeiss - mounted laterally. That, and the fold-and-rotate 2.4in, 320 x 240, 262,144-colour screen are configured to give the phone a camcorder look and feel. There's 50MB of on-board storage for your 30fps videos, but you can save them to MiniSD cards too. Beyond 3G, the N93 has a tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE radio, and Wi-Fi on board.
The handset has a stereo FM radio if you tire of taking pictures, along with all the usual MP3 playback and phone functionality. It also plays N-Gage games.

The N73 is a candybar music phone that appears to have taken some design cues from Sony Ericsson's Walkman family. It too sports a 3.2 megapixel camera and radio, but it has integrated stereo speakers with a 3D sound capability to provide the world's yoof with yet another opportunity to annoy people on public transport. It's got a 2.4in screen just like the N93 has, and Bluetooth. It will run on 3G and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks.

The black N72 is essentially a re-styled cut-down N73, this time with a two megapixel camera. It's due to go on sale around the world in June, and will operate on GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks.

The N73 and N93 will follow in July, Nokia said. Pricing will, as usual, be set by carriers, but Nokia said the N93 should retail SIM-free for around €550 ($684). ®
