AMD has put back the launch of its upcoming dual-core Turion 64 mobile processors to June, online reports have claimed. If true, the move - which had been forecast (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/03/30/amd_to_delay_turion_64_x2_debut/) - will see the chip family's debut delayed just a month, though it brings the line's debut closer to the arrival of Intel's 'Merom' CPU.
AMD's apparent decision to re-schedule the Turion 64 X2 introduction was alleged by Taiwanese notebook manufacturer sources cited (http://www.digitimes.com/mobos/a20060503PB200.html?www.reghardware.co.uk) by DigiTimes. Originally due to be launched on 9 May, the sources claimed, the chips will now debut in June - possibly at the Computex show in Taipei, which kicks off on the 6th.
The moles maintained the delay had been instituted because of the slowdown in the world notebook market ahead of the introduction of Windows Vista.
The 90nm Turions 64 X2s are codenamed 'Taylor'. They support 667MHz DDR 2 SDRAM, have 256KB of L2 cache per core and use AMD's new Socket S1 mobile-processor interconnect. A 512KB cache-per-core version, 'Trinidad', will also be made available. The single-core incarnation, 'Keene', will form the basis for future Mobile Sempron CPUs. ®
