Intel has chosen 28 May as the day it will release 65nm Celeron D processor, Taiwanese motherboard maker sources have claimed. The launch date is just five days after AMD is expected to ship its Socket AM2 interconnect and compatible CPUs.
According to a DigiTimes report (http://www.digitimes.com/mobos/a20060515PR207.html?www.reghardware.co.uk), the moles claim the parts will consume 65W - the same as the energy-efficient dual-core Athlon 64 X2 chips AMD announced today (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/05/16/amd_energy_efficient_desktop_cpus/). The Celeron Ds, however, contain just one processing core, along with 512KB of L2 cache and support for a 533MHz frontside bus.
When we exclusively revealed (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/01/16/intel_desktop_roadmap/) Intel's 65nm Celeron D plans back in January, the chip maker was preparing to release two parts: the 352 and 356. That remains the case, the report suggests, adding that the two chips will run at 3.2GHz and 3.33GHz, respectively, and be priced at $79 and $89.
A 3.46GHz version, the 360, is coming in Q3, Intel's roadmaps indicate. It will cost $103, the report's sources say. ®
