VIA unveils Vista-friendly Intel chipsetVIA has rolled out its latest integrated chipset targeting Intel processors, bringing DirectX 9-class graphics to its product line and adding support for 667MHz DDR 2 SDRAM. The P4M900's core component is its VIA twin pixel-pipeline Chrome9 graphics core, a DirectX 9 part, though it only supports Shader Model 2.0 - still sufficient for Windows Vista, mind. However, it does support HDTV output at up to 1080p resolution, and it can host an external PCI Express x16 graphics card, and there's an extra PCI Express lane off the North Bridge for other devices. The GPU is clocked at 250MHz. Related stories

The chip works with a range of VIA's South Bridges, the company said. ®
