Leadtek rebuts Foxconn handover claim
Not quitting graphics card business

Computex 2006 Leadtek has denied claims it is to quit the graphics card market in favour of manufacturing partner Foxconn, which yesterday used the Computex 2006 show in Taipei to announce it will begin selling Nvidia-based cards under its own name.
In an email sent out by a Leadtek today, the company quoted a message posted on a DailyTech forum allegedly written by a Foxconn representative in response to the website's allegations that the partners were going their separate ways.
The report, the poster said, was "incorrect". Leadtek wasn't leaving the market just because Foxconn is entering it, he said - the two firms' graphics card businesses' are "totally separate".
Until this week, Foxconn had been manufacturing graphics cards on Leadtek's behalf but not selling any of the products under its own named. The original report suggested that Foxconn's change of direction was accompanied by an agreement that Leadtek would simultaneously stop selling its cards.
However, Foxconn representatives here at Computex told Reg Hardware that no such agreement would have been struck.
Foxconn may also shortly announce its entry into the ATI-based graphics card business shortly, DailyTech said, citing a company official. ®
