AMD vs Intel AMD has started serving 32 new subpeonas against US companies in a bid to secure evidence it believes will support its allegations that arch-rival Intel used its market leadership to harm the smaller company's business.
Separately, Intel and other class-action plaintiffs have also begun sending subpoenas to around 70 third parties, among them all the firms AMD had already subpoena'd by October 2005, AMD told Reg Hardware. Intel maintains it has not engaged in any anti-competitive or unfair business practices.
All this activity began yesterday as all the parties to AMD's legal action against Intel, launched almost a year ago, continued the process of document discovery ahead of next December's US District Court of Delaware hearing, presided over by Judge Joseph J Farnan.
Court documents reveal AMD has subpoena'd Wal-Mart, Costco and LG Electronics among the companies it started targeting yesterday. Last summer, it served subpoenas on dozens of firms operating in the US, including Acer, NEC, Fujitsu, Dell, Dixons Stores Group (DSG), HP, Fujitsu-Siemens, Averatec, Gateway, IBM, Lenovo, Sony, Sun, Supermicro, Toshiba, Fry's, CompUSA, Circuit City, Best Buy, Ingram and Hitachi.
This year, AMD added Skype and Microsoft to the list. ®
