Nvidia's upcoming single-chip integrated chipset for AMD's Socket AM2 CPUs, the MCP61, will be offered in a form suitable for notebook use in addition to the desktop versions the chipset is already expected to ship as, motherboard-maker moles have claimed.
The whispers - cited (http://www.digitimes.com/mobos/a20060801PR207.html?www.reghardware.co.uk) by DigiTimes - also point to an August debut for the MCP61S, one of three MCP61 desktop variants Nvidia is believed to be preparing. The claims echo alleged leaked roadmap details reported as far back as April this year.
The MCP61S is said to have been designed to host one x8 PCI Express slot, two x1 slots and five PCI connectors. It has two 3Gbps SATA ports, two parallel ATA links, support for up to ten USB ports, 7.1-channel HD audio and 10/100Mbps Ethernet.
To that, Nvidia is expected to add the MCP61P, which brings Gigabit Ethernet, four SATA ports, digital video out and a x16 PCI Express slot to the table. The MCP61V has the same specification as the MCP61S but minus the external graphics card support.
Nvidia won PCI SIG certification (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/07/05/nvidia_mcp61_pci_thumbs_up/) for the MCP61 last month. ®
