Intel has told its customers that from 15 December they will no longer be able to order Pentium D 830, 840, 930 and 940 processors because demand for said chips has now shifted to other products.
The 3GHz and 3.2GHz, 90nm and 65nm products will still be shipped to customers out through to February 2008 in the case of tray-mounted chips and March 2007 for boxed product. Orders placed after 6 October 2006 can't be cancelled, the chip giant warned in company documents seen by Reg Hardware.
The move will leave Intel with just two 90nm dual-core Pentiums: the budget-priced 805 and 820. The 9xx line-up will comprise the 915, 920, 945, 950 and 960. But with better-performing, lower power-consuming Core 2 Duos at comparable prices, it's hard to imagine there will be big demand for these older CPUs. ®
