Vodafone is preparing to follow Orange and T-Mobile with an own-brand version of the HTC TyTN keyboard-equipped, HSDPA-enabled, Windows Mobile-based 3G handset. The Vodafone version is dubbed the v1605, according to the carrier's website.
Vodafone has yet to announce the device, and it's keeping mum about the specification. But since the v1605 is so clearly the TyTN, expect it to sport a 2.8in, 240 x 320 touchscreen display, Wi-Fi wireless networking, tri-band GSM/GPRS access, plus 3G and HSDPA for downloads running at up to 1.8Mbps. There's a two megapixel camera on the back - the camera has a macro mode for close-ups.
The device has a 400MHz processor and 64MB of RAM. There's a Micro SD slot for extra storage.

Vodafone will charge business buyers up to £250 inc. VAT for the device, depending on how many they take and what contract they select. There's no indication when the v1605 will ship, but Vodafone's website is ready to take orders.
This week, Orange UK formally announced the SPV M3100 (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/08/04/orange_posts_m3100/), its own-brand version of the TyTN, just days after the device appeared on its website. T-Mobile Germany unveiled the MDA Vario II (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/08/09/tmobile_unveils_vario_ii/) - essentially the same device, this time with the carrier's pink and grey styling. The vario II is expected to arrive in the UK later this month. ®
