AMD looks set to introduce its first 65nm processors in December this year, a quartet of dual-core Athlon 64 X2 CPUs, if a report citing sources who've seen the chip maker's latest roadmap are to be believed.
A story (http://tweakers.net/nieuws/44504/AMD-4x4-platform-gebaseerd-op-Socket-1207.html?www.reghardware.co.uk) published today on Dutch-language site Tweakers.net highlights for 65nm Socket AM2 dual-core Athlon 64 X2s due by the end of the year: the 4000+, 4400+, 4800+ and 5000+. The four CPUs are clocked at 2GHz, 2.2GHz, 2.4GHz and 2.6GHz, respectively. They contain 2MB of L2 cache except the 1MB L2 5000+.
All four chips are said to sport TDPs rated at 65W - the same as Intel's 65nm dual-core Core 2 Duo processor.
AMD already offers 90nm Athlon 64 X2s with these model numbers and power draws, suggesting it views the arrival of 65nm more as a way to boost the yield of existing products than as the basis for a new product line.
The report also points to new 90nm Socket AM2 Semprons next month: the 2GHz 3500+ and the 2.2GHz 3800+, the former with 128KB of L2, the latter with 256KB. ®
