Orange has launched its own satellite navigation product, consisting of a GPS receiver which can be connected to an Orange mobile phone for displaying maps, giving directions, and playing geocaching games. The package comes from Webraska and is basically that company's product with an Orange wrapper.
Orange is charging £150 for the package, which includes a Bluetooth GPS receiver, Webraska software for the phone handset, and an in-car charger with phone holder. Buying the software direct from Webraska will set you back around £93, with another £67.19 for the GPS receiver, making the Orange deal a tenner cheaper - all ex VAT of course, with a free charger too.
Updates such as traffic information are available from Orange for £27.59, or direct from Webraska at £26.74 at today's exchange rate.
If you're thinking of getting GPS for your phone, the Orange deal is a tenner cheaper than the same bundle from Webraska, but there is significant competition in the on-phone-maps market. Take a look at the 3D Panoramic mode (http://www.viewranger.com/vrproductinfo.php) in ViewRanger to see the kind of innovative features companies are adding, and shop around before making a decision. ®
