Nvidia has had a cracking third quarter, pulling a record $826.6m revenues for the September quarter(Q3 2005: $583.4m) and net income of $106.5m (Q3'05: $86.75m).
The graphics chip firm claims growth in market share, citing Mercury Research figures which put the company as the largest supplier of standalone GPUs in Q3 with 55 per cent share. Share of the entire desktop graphics market was 33 per cent in the quarter, enough to put it in pole position, Mercury says.
Nvidia anticipates great things for two new products launched this week, the GeForce 8800, and the nforce 680i mobo, which is built on Intel Core 2 Duo processors, with both bringing home the bacon in the coming year.
Jen-Hsun Huang, Nvidia's commander-in-chief, says he combination of GeForce 8800 and nForce 680i "delivers what we believe are the perfect technologies to support the biggest confluence of technology changes to hit our industry in the last 10 years - Windows Vista, DX10 and Blu-ray/HD."
This week, Nvidia bought PortalPlayer, a developer of application processors for iPods and other handhelds, heralding its intention to become a big swinging dick in mobile devices.
