Re-enact great Jedi, Sith battles with... a Nintendo Wii Remote

Remember MacSaber, the fun utility that used a MacBook or MacBook Pro's hard drive movement sensor to trigger Jedi lightsabre sounds (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/05/22/macbook_lightsabre_emulation/)? Well, now you can do the same thing with the much more sword hilt-like Nintendo Wii Remote.

The new app, WiiSaber, comes from Isnoop, the guy who developed MacSaber earlier this year. It's currently available as a pre-release, testing version here (http://isnoop.net/apps/latest.php?app=WiiSaber).

You'll still need a Mac, to play the sounds, but the two hardware gadgets work smoothly together thanks to code developed by Japanese coder Hiroaky to pair Mac to Remote (http://blog.hiroaki.jp/2006/12/000433.html) and share data between them.

Isnoop says he's working on the ability to support multiple Remotes, allowing players to engage in battles. Locate each Remote, extrapolate a metre-long cylinder from the end and check for collisions. All we need then, will be a way to get green, blue, purple or red lights to spring forth from the Remote... Impressive, most impressive... ®
