Sapphire preps 'quad-CrossFire capable' dual-GPU boardGraphics card maker Sapphire is preparing to launch a board built around two CrossFire-connected AMD ATI Radeon X1950 Pro graphics chips. Called The Godfather, the board needs two power feeds and, as you'd expect, takes up two PCI Express slots but only one connector. Related stories
Sapphire demo'd Godfather in the Far East today, according to a report on DailyTech, in preparation for a full-scale launch at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas early next year. That's one reason why Sapphire didn't reveal the new board's memory and core clock speeds. Interestingly, the board is said to be able to work with a second Godfather - assuming you have room in your PC's case, of course, and sufficient power cables - to do quad-CrossFire. Apparently, both dual-link DVI connectors can be used at the same time. Sapphire said the Godfather will ship in Q1 2007. ®
