Samsung touts twin-view mobile displaySamsung has developed an LCD capable of displaying two separate images independently. The South Korean giant reckons there's a market for PDAs and PMPs - the display's for mobile machines - that can show two images back to back. Related stories
According to the company, the two sub-panels are 2.22in jobs, each with a 240 x 320 resolution, a portrait orientation and the ability to show 262,144-colours. One has a backlight, the other relies on incident illumination passing through the screen and being reflected back out toward the viewer. That makes it less bright than the other: 100cdpm² to 250cdpm². Samsung said the screen will allow device makers to replace two panels with one, though how many consumer-oriented gadgets require a full-size secondary screen isn't clear, though the technology would allow even thinner clamshell phones to be made. ® |
