CES 2007 Matrox will this quarter ship the DualHead2Go Digital Edition, an enhanced version of its notebook-oriented multi-monitor driver dongle which now sports a pair of DVI digital monitor connectors in place of the original version's VGA outputs.

The $229 add-on connects to a laptop's VGA port and expands the image across two external displays. It can drive two 1,920 x 1,200 resolution screens for a combined display size of 3,840 x 1,200. The unit is powered by a USB port on the host computer.
When connected, the host is fooled into thinking it's connected to a single display - the DualHead2Go splits the signal into two, each of which is used to drive is a screen. The host has to have sufficient video memory to support the overall display size and a suitable GPU.
Matrox said the gadget will work with both Macs and Windows PCs, though Windows users have more resolution options than their Mac-based counterparts. ®
