AMD's ATI Radeon X1950 Uber Edition - a pair of overclocked graphics cards shipped in a lockable James Bond-style attaché case - have started to appear in appear in the wild.
The "limited release" bundle comprises two X1950 XTX cards, and ATI "wide-area" mousemat and sticker, a "VIP customer care card", and a number certificate with former ATI CEO Dave Orton's signature printed on it. Apparently, he signed to master copy "in the days leading up to the ATI-AMD merger". Golly.
The cards are the key component. Standard XTXs are clocked at 650MHz, with the memory running at 2GHz. The CrossFire-ready Uber Edition boards have been clocked to 670MHz and 2.1GHz.
This fanboy's dream will set ATI lovers back $788, though we understand AMD will only be offering 500 of them. According to Japanese-language website Akiba PC Hotline, Japan will get an allocation of 20 Uber Edition bundles, with rest split between North America and Europe. ®
