Online retailers have been listing AMD's anticipated Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3GHz processor for a wee while now, but it appears the part has now begun shipping, to one reseller at least. The chip wasn't expected to go on sale until next month.
US-based retailer Newegg.com has the part in stock, Reg Hardware readers spotted this weekend. It's apparently offering the OEM version - the SKU intended for PC manufacturers rather than end-users looking to upgrade their systems - according to the seller's website. Newegg.com wants $599 for it.
This morning, a wide array of UK and US suppliers list the chip but no one apart from Newegg.com appears to have it in stock. Many say they are awaiting supplies of the product. Those that do show a re-stock date point to a February arrival.
Even if the part is starting to filter through, it has yet to be officially announced by AMD, or to appear on the chip maker's public price list. Right now, the highest spec Athlon 64 X2 on the list is the 2.8GHz 5600+. Like the 5600+, the 6000+ has 2MB of L2 cache on board. The 5800+, should AMD offer one, will have 1MB of L2 in total.
