Nvidia's upcoming MCP73 single-chip chipset for Intel processors will be offered in three versions, it has been claimed: two integrated models and one without a built-in GPU.
Past reports (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/12/12/nvidia_intel_igp_details_leak/) have pointed to an integrated product supporting a 1,066MHz frontside bus and a single-channel 667MHz memory bus. According to a DailyTech story (http://www.dailytech.com/New+NVIDIA+Intel+Desktop+Chipsets+for+2007/article5928.htm?www.reghardware.co.uk), that's the mainstream MCP73 - aka the MCP73PV - to which we should add a version with 1,333MHz FSB support - the MCP73P - and a third incarnation that lacks integrated graphics.
The site also said the chipset has no SLI support but will allow external graphics cards to be connected. That builds on past claims the MCP73 has a GeForce 7-class graphics core with integrated HDMI support. The single-chip chipset will host up to four 3Gbps SATA drives and a single parallel ATA peripheral. It can run up to ten USB ports and has Gigabit Ethernet on board. Its audio capabilities remain unknown.
The MCP73 family is expected to go into volume production in Q2. At Nvidia's results conference last night, CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said the launch would come "later this year".
