Panasonic has become the latest cordless-phone maker to offer a Skype-friendly Wi-Fi model. All the usual VoIP facilities are present and correct, but the KX-WP1050 also comes - all in a natty case - with a travel router.

The handset supports the WPA wireless security system and prioritises VoIP traffic over the wireless network.
The KX-WP1050's 730mAh battery yields 4.5 hours' talk time and 55 hours on stand-by, Panasonic claimed. It can be charged through any spare USB port.

The kit costs $400 from Panasonic US' online store (http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/vOverview?storeId=15001&catalogId=13401&catGroupId=25035&cacheProgram=11002&cachePartner=7000000000000005702).
