Nvidia will bring a trio of mid-range DirectX 10 graphics chips to market next month in a bid to see off the challenge posed by AMD's upcoming ATI-branded RV610 and RV630 GPUs, it has been claimed.
Industry moles cited by Chinese-language website HKEPC alleged today Nvidia will release the GeForce 8600 GTS, 8600 GT and 8500 GT in April. They're said to be the 80nm 'G84' - the 8600s - and 'G86' - the 8500 - chips that were first whispered about on the rumour mill back in November 2006.
Further G86 chips are on the cards, they add: the 8400 GS and 8300 GS, but it's not certain when these GPUs will be released to card makers.
Speeds and feeds remain unclear too: the report mentions core clock frequencies of 675MHz for the 8600 GTS and 420MHz for the 8600 GT, with memory set to run at effective frequencies of 2GHz and 1.4GHz, respectively.
