Rock rolls out Meivo VoD HD TV

We've heard of big-screen PCs with built-in TV tuners, but here's an attempt to do it the other way round. Notebook specialist Rock has put the PC into the TV, and is pitching the hybrid as a handy way to view web-sourced video-on-demand content.

Meivo clips a Core 2 Duo-based Windows Vista computer on the back of a 22in, 1,680 x 1,050 720p HD TV. The telly has Wi-Fi on board to connect it to the Net, and Bluetooth for its wireless keyboard and mouse. You can hook up its 7.1-channel audio sub-system to external speakers and hi-fi kit.

Rock has fitted Meivo with a pair of hard drive bays, allowing you to configure a hefty content archive or duplicate it all to guard against damage. The system has a side-mounted USB port for add-on Flash keys and hard drives, or to hook up your MP3 player.

The Meivo goes on sale at the end of April for around a grand, though you'll pay more if you pile on the extras. Expect Rock to extend the line with different screen sizes in due course.
