Sony Ericsson this week took the wraps off not only its latest Walkman-branded slimline slider phone but also its first handset capable of accepting high-speed HSDPA downloads.

The W580 is a 1.4cm-thick device with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity. It sports a 2in, 240 x 320, 262,144-colour display and a two-megapixel camera, and comes packaged with a 512MB Memory Stick Micro card for song storage. There's an RDS station ident-reading FM radio on board too, and the handset's Bluetooth link supports A2DP wireless stereo.

Sony Ericsson claimed the Walkman will offer a massive nine hours of talk time - 370 hours on stand-by. It will be available in two colour schemes: white and orange, and grey and blue.

The Z750 clamshell will appear on shop shelves in dark grey and pink versions. Both are likewise quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE handsets but also have single-band 3H HSDPA connectivity. Once again, the display is a 240 x 320, 262,144-colour job, this time joined by a 128 x 36 OLED external screen. There's a two-megapixel main camera and that RDS-capable FM radio.

Both handsets are set to go on sale in Q3.
