Now you too can spank your plank just like legendary axeman Jimi Hendrix. Well, almost. New software, released today, can make you sound like Hendrix, but riffing like the great man will take a bucket-load of talent too.
The app you'll need is Italian software developer IK Multimedia's AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix. Connect your electric guitar to a Mac or PC and the software takes your chords and makes them sound as if they've been pumped through up to eight old-style effects pedals, four amps, seven cabinets, five microphone types and four effects racks.
All the emulated electrics are kit that Hendrix himself used and verified by Authentic Hendrix, the licensing company owned by the guitarist's heirs.

AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix runs as a standalone application but can also be accessed from within other music apps, like GarageBand, Pro Tools, Cubase and Logic. IK also announced today StealthPlug, a USB add-on that incorporates a 0.25in guitar jack.

StealthPlug costs $129/€99; AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix retails for $249/€169. Both are available from IK Multimedia's online store (http://www.ikmultimedia.com/Sales.php).
