Intel price cuts to pave the way for cheaper 'Santa Rosa' laptops

Looking for a cheaper 'Santa Rosa' Centrino-branded laptop? Moles in Taiwan reckon you should wait a little while - they claim Intel will be pruning its mobile processor prices sometime during the third quarter.

When in Q3 the cuts will come, the sources - cited by local newssite DigiTimes - couldn't say, but the claimed the move will see the Santa Rosa Core 2 Duo T7500 and T7700 CPUs become, respectively, 24 per cent and 32 per cent less expensive.

The adjustment is said to coincide with the introduction of a new top-of-the-line models, the T7800 and T7900, alongside a now, lower-end chip, the T7250. The sources didn't provide specifications, but the T7800 and T7900 are likely to be clocked at 2.6GHz and 2.8GHz, respectively, with 4MB of L2. We'd speculate the T7250 will be clocked at 2GHz like the T7300, but have 2MB of cache rather than the 4MB the T7300 offers.
