Toshiba names new HD DVD laptops
19th June 2007 16:07 GMT
Toshiba has re-iterated its plan to build HD DVD drives into a range of laptops - well, three at least. And you'll have to wait a while to get your hands on one: they're not due to go on sale until the back-to-school sales period in Q3 - think August.

Toshiba's Satellite P205: HD DVD coming soon
The machines getting HD DVD drives - read-only units, we hasten to add - are the Satellite P205, Satellite X205 and the Qosmio F45, Toshiba's US operation said today. Meanwhile, the Qosmio G45 will get the HD DVD-R drive Toshiba showed off in January this year.
Toshiba revealed its plan to push HD DVD further into mainstream computing in March at the CeBIT show, though it didn't provide any details.
The P205, X205 and G45 will all sport 17in screens, while the F45 is a 15.4-incher. All four laptops will incoporate HDMI ports to allow them to be hooked up to HDTVs - 1080p screens in the case of the G45; 1080i for the rest.
Toshiba said it would detail pricing closer to launch, but it did say the machines' prices will fall between $1449 and $3199.
Earlier this month, Toshiba showed off the first laptop-friendly HD DVD-RW drive.
