Nvidia is preparing to up the ante in the performance graphics chip stakes this coming November with 'G92', it has been claimed. If true, the new part will be announced a year after Nvidia launched its first GeForce 8 series GPU.
Various reports around the web earmark 12 November for G92's launch date, though there's some confusion about the part's ranking in Nvidia's product list. GeForce 8950 is one name put forward, suggesting it'll sit above the 8800 Ultra, but then other reports suggest it'll be more of a mainstream part.
There's some consensus on G92's capabilities, however. Expect a DirectX 10.1 part that'll fit on PCI Express 2.0 connected cards with DVI, HDMI and - interestingly - DisplayPort connectors.
DisplayPort is the Vesa organisation's answer to the more consumer electronics-centric HDMI, and while it's questionable whether the industry needs a second connector that does pretty much what HDMI does, Nvidia's clearly plating it safe. In the past, the company has told Register Hardware there are powerful names in the computer biz in both camps, and why annoy any of them to save a couple of dollars on the cost of a graphics card?

Whatever the G92's specs and market status, all will apparently be revealed in two months' time.
