Toshiba today unveiled its latest widescreen projector. The TLP-WX2200U model features a palm-sized control panel that allows users to assign a password to prevent unauthorised access to the projector – so presumably no one will be able to mess with your slides before that important presentation.
The WX2200U also has a 1.2x projection lens, a WXGA 1280 x 800 resolution and a contrast ratio of 600:1, which isn’t very impressive when compared with average LCD or plasma displays, but will probably suffice for presentations. However, it produces a brightness of 2200 lumens, meaning it should be good enough to show up your projection.

It can display an impressive 16.7m colours, putting it on a par with Evesham’s 26in Alqemi V and VX HD TVs (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/06/20/review_evesham_alqemi_v_and_vx/). In addition, the device can project up to a maximum distance of 32.4 feet and up to a size of 300in, so it could be used from the back of a room without having to be moved closer to a wall and will create a very large display.
Toshiba said the device is also compatible with a variety of input connections, including composite and S-video, and monitor-out, which allows the projection to be viewed simultaneously on a monitor and projection screen.
A 1-watt monaural speaker is also built in, which won’t make your ears bleed, and isn’t much to write home about as many existing projectors on the market already have one built-in.
The Toshiba WX2200U projector is currently available in the USA for about $1,000 (£500/€650), but a European release date or price has not yet been confirmed.
