If you have a wifi router anyway a slug will set you back £50

If these units work over wi-fi then why on earth do you need the Local end of the box? Couldn't you get away with using a software virtual USB host on your computer which would encode USB signals and transmit over your existing wireless network which the Remote Extender could then received & decode back into USB for the peripherals.

USB 2.0 - or not?

IIs it me, or do the USB 2.0 ports on my laptop seem too slow? I copied some files from a friend onto a USB stick, and they copied quickly. But transferring them onto my machine was very different.

Mac OS X Tiger out, Leopard back in

I couldn't resist. I went back to Leopard. I've been running Apple's latest operating system for well over a month now, originally 10.5.1 and now 10.5.2, with no untoward effects...
