Want to take advantage of 7.1-channel sound sources but your computer's only capable stereo output? If so, this little gadget could be just what you need.

Brando's 7.1-channel USB adaptor

The USB 2.0 device plugs directly into your PC, and Brando claims it will deliver 7.1-channel sound to a pair of headphones through a 3.5mm jack socket on its end. There's a mic socket too.

There’s volume adjustment and mute buttons on its topside, and LEDs to reaffirm the mic’s muted status and that power’s flowing through the device.

The plug and play device is compatible with PCs and, apparently, Macs and Linux boxes. That said, the Xear 3D, the stereo speaker-oriented 7.1-simulation software, only runs under Windows. The gadget weighs 15g and measures a pocket friendly 5.8 x 2.5 x 1.3cm. It's available here now for $15 (£7/€11).
