It's hard to find a laptop with more than 200GB of hard disk storage - at least ones that contains just a single drive - but you now can add your own, larger capacity drive, thanks to Western Digital.
WD's Scorpio 320: biggest laptop hard drive money can buy?
WD today rolled out its latest 2.5in Scorpio notebook-oriented HDD, a 320GB monster ready for connecting to a 3Gbps SATA port.
That puts it just ahead of Toshiba, which announced a 320GB 2.5in drive of its own (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/08/21/toshiba_320gb_hdd/) back in August. According to Toshiba's website, the MK3252GSX isn't available yet, though it's due by the end of the year.
The Scorpio 320 is 9.5mm high, narrow enough to fit into many a slimline laptop. It has 8MB of cache and a maximum spin speed of 5400rpm, though WD's Intelliseek technology will slow down if it can do so without reducing the data throughput, the better to keep the unit's power consumption and noise levels down.
The 320 - model number WD3200BEVS - is available now, WD said, from its online store (http://www.shopwd.com/) and soon through its reseller channel. It's priced at $200 (£97/€139).
