Motorola readies Bluetooth headset for metalheads

If you can’t afford a Vertu phone (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/10/01/vertu_asscent_ferrari_60/), then hide your humdrum handset and create the poser’s allure by hooking a diamond-cut metal hands-free kit around your ear. Motorola’s created the MotoPure H12 Bluetooth headset, endorsed by - of all people – David Beckham.

Motorola said the H12 unit is the first of its headsets to incorporate what it calls CrystalTalk technology, which also features in the SLVR L9 handset (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/02/12/moto_upgrades_style_phones/), and uses two microphones to cancel out background noise - resulting, it claimed, in a clearer conversation.

Australian audio software developer Dynamic Hearing (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/06/10/voicefield_multimic/) has previously claimed that dual microphones significantly improve a Bluetooth headset’s ability to capture speech. Dynamic said the headset then becomes more effective at noise cancellation and suppression.

A base is also provided that not only connects with the H12 and charges it over power drawn by mini USB. But it also gives users somewhere to sit and admire their headset - which also has “spun metal accents” by the way.

LEDs appear on the headset’s front to indicate when it’s charging or running low on power. But the latter shouldn’t be very often because the H12 provides 5.5 hours of talk time and 200 hours in standby mode.

Motorola’s MotoPure H12 is expected to be available worldwide in the fourth quarter of this year, for around $100 (£50/€70).
