HTC has beefed-up its Touch handset range by launching the Cruise, the first model to incorporate GPS navigation.
HTC's Touch Cruise: find your way with its GPS
HTC said it has teamed-up with TomTom to give users access to trial versions of the satnav specialist's European mapping service. The handset’s older siblings, the Touch and Touch Dual, don’t incorporate a GPS receiver.
HTC’s latest Touch features quad-band GSM/GPRS/Edge connectivity and can make HSDPA 3G connections at up to 3.6Mb/s. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0 are on board too.
Three-megapixel snapper
Running on Windows Mobile 6, the Cruise is based around a 400MHz CPU and Qualcomm 7200 chip set, like O2’s second-generation XDA Orbit 2 (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/11/09/o2_xda_orbit_2/) PDA phone.
The Cruise has a 128MB built-in memory, in addition to a Micro SD card slot that should come in handy for, say, storing pictures taken on its three-megapixel camera. Pictures are displayed on the handset’s 2.8in 240 x 320 touchscreen.
The Touch Cruise will be available later this month, HTC said. But a price hasn’t been located yet.
