LG has developed a range of high contrast LCD monitors, which it claims boosts the highest contrast screen currently available from 3000:1 to 5000:1.

The company isn’t giving much away about the monitors just yet, but a spokesman for LG told Register Hardware that all its existing lower contrast ratio monitors may eventually be superseded with the new 5000:1 ratio.
LG claims that a technology dubbed Digital Fine Contrast (DFC) which, although isn't new, is used in its 5000:1 monitors to increase the crispness and brightness of moving images, whilst making darker images more distinguishable and reducing distortion. Samsung uses a similar technology called Dynamic Contrast Ratio (DCR).
However, the spokesman did give away one tasty snippet of information: the 5000:1 range, which will be released between before 2007’s out, will include a 22in monitor priced between £190 (€215/$390) and £240 (€265/$480).
By comparison, Samsung’s SM226CW 22in LCD monitor, which uses DCR, but has a 3000:1 contrast ratio, retails for around £170 (€193/$315).
