Nvidia will roll out a PCI Express 2.0 and DisplayPort-enabled successor to its budget GeForce 8400 GS graphics chip early next month, if the latest claim from Taiwanese industry moles is to be believed.
The new chip is based on a 65nm core codenamed 'G98', Chinese-language site HKEPC reports (http://www.hkepc.com/?id=345). There are eight pixel processors on board, and the core will be clocked at 567MHz. The chip will connect to memory across a 64-bit bus, as per the 8400 GS.
Apparently, the part will contain the next generation of Nvidia's PureVideo picture-processing technology. It will also support the DisplayPort digital monitor interface, though HDMI with HDCP copy-protection are also part of the package.
Cards based on the G98 wil support the PCI Express 2.0 standard.
The sources claim the new chip will be announced on 3 December - the day Nvidia is also expected to make public its three-way 'tri-SLI' technology and, it's said, a 512MB version of the existing GeForce 8800 GTS chip.
