You don't think that they could be thinking of selling their trademark to someone deserving of it? Dreamcast beat PS2 to market and had all the early going and press behind it. But, we all can remember what happened to that eh? Xbox 360 beat PS3 to market and had all the early going and press behind it, not to mention an army of loyal bloggers peeing on anything from arch-rival Sony.
Wonder if Microsoft is planning a 'Dreamcast 360' product launch....

I wonder if it has anything to do with providing extra capacity to stop any chinese firms from thinking about building their own dreamcasts to flog on the cheap next to the polystation2..
I highly doubt they'd be willing to get burned again in the hardware market, they lost their crown with the saturn (shame really because it had some classic titles on it) and after an attempt at regaining it with the dreamcast they gracefully retired from the hardware race.
now, if only we can get them producing some compelling "must have" versions of the great franchises!

I think the most likely theory is that SEGA plan to release Dreamcast titles on the Wii Virtual Console. Dreamcast 2 though? That would be well accepted, but incredibly unlikely.

'No' to the CE question: CE can run on it, but only from CD (a game written using CE would come with the OS image on the disc too). Quite why you'd want to use it is beyond reason, however.
You stunner! I've got Rez on the DC and PS2 (and the soundtrack, and the...err...girlfriend-friendly attachment), but on my PC? Hell yeah. That and Alien Hominid HD are (were) the only reasons I was jealous of 360 owners. No longer!

they didn't have had the deep pockets (or savvy) to compete with sony, but they had a better product (the dreamcast) at a better price (compared to the ps2). the wii proves that you can compete with inferior hardware at a lower price point. before i was too nostalgic, sega did the right thing in realizing sony's dev tie-ins were too much.
i'd like to see them throw their weight behind one of the platforms but i don't think they have any more influence than most of the big publishers now. at this point, all they can do is perhaps influence a unified dev environment and *try* to push a common platform. but unless sony blinks, that'll never happen.
still, the new sonic/mario olympics seems like a total wus-out to me. but if they sell a 100K units, i guess i'm the old school dreamer.

Sega never did leave the hardware market. They made those tiny little LCD handheld games and sold it with the McDonalds Happy Meals, and the Sega Pico (remember those?) are actually still being made and sold in Japan from info I gathered.

The Dreamcast isn't dead - it's just sleeping.
Seriously, this story has made my day, for it has given me hope again, however slim. Who knows, prehaps - one, glorious day - I will never have to shead another tear when a top-tier Sega title appears on a sony console, imagining what might have been.
Also made my heart soar to see so much Sega-love flying around - Any other Phantasy Star Online addicts lurking?

... Jet Set Radio? That was my favourite, top fun and the art style was something else! Aw, I do miss the DC; its one of the great injustices that it was so soundly beaten by the inferior [?] PS2
