Intel to revise mobile CPU naming scheme

Intel will revise its naming scheme for mobile processors in Q2, a move that will see the old LV and ULV labels dropped in favour of new processor class prefixes to go with the ones already applied to Core 2 Duo chips.
Intel currently prefixes some mobile processor model numbers with X, T, L and U. To that it's going to add P, SP, SL and SU. P, L and U will be used to denote varying degrees of energy efficiency, while the addition of the S indicates a small-package processor - the 'Silverthorne' UMPC chip, we imagine.
Running down the list, we have X, T, P, L and U, respectively addressing the following power consumption bands: >40W, 30-39W, 20-29W, 12-19W and <12W.
The SP, SL and SU also fit in the 20-29W, 12-19W and <12W bands.
The new codes will be introduced when Intel rolls out 'Montevina', the next generation of its Centrino platform, probably in May.
In due course, Intel will introduce QX chips, mobile parts that consume more the 40W of power but have four cores rather than two - X alone will refer to dual-core CPUs.
