Even ignoring the inflation, the Wii is a fraction of the cost that the PS2 was on launch. Stands to reason it will shift faster. Shame the attach rate is so damn poor.

Not surprised, the DS and the Wii have a greater target audience. Fair played, and congrats to Nintendo for becoming the a force to be reckoned with once again :o)

I've got a feeling that we're going to be seeing a lot more from the PS3 over 2008. Sony have definitely taken a long-term approach with this generation of hardware and I suspect that Microsoft have played a big hand last year (2007) that we won't/can't see sustained in 2008.
2007 saw the HD-DVD add-on for Xbox 360 and some really amazing games, but Blu ray is clearly coming of age this year, coupled with lower hardware prices (the PS3 frustratingly has always actually been pretty good value for money when you add up the cost of extras) and, of course, those elusive big games that are finally happening this year on PS3 - I think Sony are going to do all-right out of 2008. We're also looking at strong PSP sales (not like DS though!) and PS Home and it will be interesting to see how Microsoft fit in. First to market for sure - but is the 360 just looking a tiny bit dog-eared compared to the PS3 at the moment..?
The Wii is something unto itself - Nintendo are a simply amazing company and although the software sales are drip fed - when they come, boy are they worth the wait!
Coupled with amazingly strong DS sales, the Big N are gravy all the way... and we should all celebrate that.

I'm surprised to see a few things there, namely that not only is the XBox being outsold by the PS3, but the PS2 as well?? I can only assume this is because of price-point.
Actually I've just spotted it, a bit of trend analysis of the PS2+3 shows the units are shifting in roughly the same pattern - PS3 owners must be making up for the removed backwards compatibility by getting a PS2 as well...

These are JAPANESE sales numbers, folks. I hate to point out the bleeding fucking obvious, here, but the PS3 came in *6th* in NDP numbers for December. Yes, read that, *6th*. Behind the PSP. They were outsold by the Wii 500k units, by the Xbox 360 by 400k units, and the PS2 and the PSP by 300k units each. The DS outsold the PS3 by three fold.
The Wii outsold the PS3 by four million for the sale. The Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 by two million. Even the PS2 and the PSP outsold the PS3.
Don't give me any bollocks about the price differences, either. This is absolutely unprecedented no matter how you look at it. If Japan wants to get stuck with a dead console then that is fine by me, but going on about a gut feeling is ridiculous as that feeling is probably nothing more than indigestion. Sony's long term strategy is a bit non-existent at this point. Do they expect the PS3 to save Blu-ray, or Blu-ray to save the PS3? I guarantee it's neither. Sony's a bit-player this round, and there's no two ways about that.
Numbers don't lie, although people often try and create reason for their existence. How many excuses do we have to hear from the fan-boys before they realize what's actually happening?
Oh, right... this is technology and video-games. Logic and reason take a backseat to rabid fandom.

I got bored watching and waiting a long time ago. When the Wii was launched it engaged people straight away and constantly delivered. Why should I wait a whole year for the PS3 to deliver something interesting.
