Anyone that thinks the market for radios has gone a bit wooden these days is right, literally. Online retailer Areaware has begun branching out into working wood-clad trannies.

The designer behind the Magno Wooden Radio said he chose the material not just because it makes the system look nice, but also because of wood’s simplicity and "organic vitality".

Magno receives AM and FM broadcasts, in addition to short-wave transmissions, which can be scanned through using a selection of wooden knobs on the radio’s front. Although the telescopic antenna is made from metal, it too has a nice touch of tree set on its tip.

Jacks on the Magno’s rear also allow for a power cable to be plugged in, as well as an external antenna and MP3 player. Each jack, though obviously metallic at the end, is wrapped in wood so that your modern connectivity options don’t spoil the radio’s arboreal charm.

The Magno Wooden Radio will be available online from 1 April for $275 (£135/€190). A European specific price hasn’t been carved out yet.
