Network operator O2 has launched its latest XDA-brand smartphone just a couple of months after it released the second generation XDA Orbit (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/01/31/o2_xda_orbit_2_available/) onto the market.
O2's XDA Atmos: HSDPA accelerated
O2's new XDA is the quad-band GSM/GPRS/Edge Atmos, which also is also capable UMTS 3G connections and HSDPA high-speed downloads. O2 claimed the Atmos has a battery life of around seven hours over GSM, but only four hours when used over a UMTS connection.
The Atmos has a two megapixel camera and Wi-Fi connectivity
The Atmos runs Windows Mobile 6, and has a 2.4in, 240 x 320 display. The phone slides open to reveal a Qwerty keyboard. There's a Micro SDHC slot for cards of up to 32GB. It has Bluetooth 2.0 with Extended Data Rate (EDR) for short-range data transfers, and 802.11b/g Wi-Fi for wireless networking.
Although O2’s given the Atmos a playful side by incorporating a camera, users only get two megapixels with the Atmos. The Atmos supports playback of WMA audio files and WMV video files.
The handset is manufactured by usual-suspect HTC, which offers the device as the S730.
O2’s XDA Atmos is available now on selected tariffs for around £200 (€240/$500).
