Sony has resolved the problems with version 2.40 of its PlayStation 3 firmware. The consumer electronics giant is said to be readying a fresh release of the update next week.
According to a report by website CVG, Sony’s customer support division said that the firmware revision has now been renamed version 2.41. Apparently, 2.41 will be out around the middle of next week, although the firm’s yet to announce anything officially.
Sony was forced to withdraw the hotly anticipated 2.40 firmware just hours after releasing it last week, because reports soon began surfacing that the update was massing up some gamers’ machines.
Several Register Hardware readers told us that 2.40 had caused a range of problems on their PS3s. One reader said the update failed halfway through its installation and froze his console. Another disgruntled gamer said he wasn’t able to assign any controllers after installing the PS3 update.
